All change
Article Abstract:
A fundamental change in the way nurses are taught could help overcome the nursing shortage in the UK. The Department of Health needs to take a more flexible approach to teaching, while ensuring standards remain high and there is greater emphasis placed on clinical placements where students can learn the importance of skills in a practical way. More nurse teachers must be employed, providing greater opportunities for those wishing to enter the nursing profession.

The pitfalls of Project 2000
Article Abstract:
It is essential that nursing students learn practical skills before they emerge from training. There is concern among experts that Project 2000 is preventing some nurses from gaining clinical experience before they leave college. The problem must be resolved through closer links between education and practice, while the role of the clinical link tutor must be reconsidered.
