Anesthesiologists sue Aetna: made us skimp quality
Article Abstract:
Three Long Island anesthesiologists are suing HMO Aetna Life and Casualty Co for forcing them to accept contract terms they feel erode quality of care. The physicians accepted the contracts only after Aetna threatened to discontinue its association with the hospitals employing them. The three allege that the contracts' terms violate federal antitrust law by limiting physicians' ability to compete for patients on the basis of quality of care.
