Antiretroviral treatment simplification with 3 NRTIs or 2 NRTIs plus Nevirapine in HIV-1-infected patients treated with successful first-line HAART

Article Abstract:

An antiretroviral treatment simplification with coformulated zidovudine/lamivudine/abacavir (group 1) is compared with coformulated zidovudine/lamivudine plus nevirapine (group 2) in HIV-infected patients to assess its virologic noninferiority. It is concluded that group 1 is not inferior to group 2 regarding virologic suppression <200 copies/mL and both strategies improve lipid profile.

Lopinavir/Ritonavir plus nevirapine as a Nucleoside-sparing approach in antiretroviral-experienced patients (NEKA Study)

Article Abstract:

A study is made to compare the efficacy and safety of a nucleoside sparing approach with a conventional highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) regimen in antiretroviral-experienced patients with prolonged viral suppression. The result showed that all patients maintained viral suppression after 48 weeks and no subject discontinued therapy because of adverse events.

Treatment interruptions guided by CD4 counts and viral load

Article Abstract:

The rationale for treatment discontinuation in patients with undetectable or detectable plasma viral load was discussed. Successful treatment interruption was found to be associated with age (<35 years), high CD4 nadir, high pre-highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) CD4, and low pre-HAART viral load.
