Breast cancer prevention strategies explored

Article Abstract:

New research presented at the annual conference of the American Association for Cancer Research suggests that vitamin D and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors might help reduce the risk of breast cancer. These finding might help women, particularly those at elevated risk, take steps to prevent the development of this disease, although experts caution that any anticancer benefits of the COX-2 inhibitors would have to be balanced against the drugs' cardiovascular risks.

Comorbidity and survival disparities among black and white patients with breast cancer

Article Abstract:

A study is undertaken of African American and white breast cancer patients to examine the contribution of comorbidity to the survival discrepancies among black and white patients. Observations reveal that the death of more African American breast cancer patients is attributable to competing or non-breast cancer reasons, and an effective control of comorbidity in these patients should promote life expectancy and reduce survival discrepancies.
