Cancer genetics: The importance of obtaining a family history

Article Abstract:

Most cancer predisposition genes are transmitted in an autosomal dominant fashion and the presence of a genetic alteration has serious implications for all family members who may have inherited the faulty gene and face the risk of developing cancer. The importance of taking the family history of a patient suspected of, or diagnosed with cancer, is highlighted.
