Changes in activated protein C resistance during normal pregnancy

Article Abstract:

The blood of women with uncomplicated pregnancies appears to develop an increasing tendency to clot as measured by resistance to activated protein C. Blood samples of 128 women with uncomplicated pregnancies were tested for activated protein C resistance and other clotting factors during each trimester and compared with blood samples from healthy non-pregnant volunteers. Protein C resistance increased as the pregnancies progressed. This resistance was accompanied by changes in other clotting factors including a lowered free protein S count and increased factor VIII count.

A pregnant patient with renal vein thrombosis successfully treated with low-dose thrombolytic therapy: A case report

Article Abstract:

An 18 year-old woman with membranous glomerulonephritis was seen at 26 weeks of gestation with a right renal vein thrombosis with 95% occlusion. IT is concluded that when thrombolytic therapy is used cautiously under intensive care settings, it may prolong gestation to enhance the chances of a favorable outcome.

Article Abstract:

A study in the run-in phase of a thromboprophylactic trial in women at moderate to high risk of deep vein thrombosis postceserean section was conducted using magnetic resonance venography. The results revealed that there was a high rate of pelvic deep vein thrombosis to the extent of 46%.
