The Arthritis, Rheumatism, and Aging Medical Information System (ARAMIS) is a good model for a chronic disease database that can be used to evaluate treatments. Since 1976, ARAMIS has collected detailed information on 6,673 rheumatoid arthritis patients with over 50,000 patient-years of follow-up.

Summary of clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis using infliximab, an anti-TNFalpha treatment

The drug infliximab appears to be effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. This drug is a monoclonal antibody that blocks the activity of tumor necrosis factor, a protein produced by the immune system that has been implicated in the development of rheumatoid arthritis.
