Chip shop
Article Abstract:
The UK draft regulations known as CHIP (chemical hazard information and packaging) aims to protect chemical industry employees. There are over 15,000 different types of chemicals used within the UK chemical industry. Chemicals produce undetectable gases and vapours which can cause serious illness if inhaled. The inhalation of alcohol vapours, such as ethyl and methyl causes inflammation of the lungs. Ammonia used for the manufacture of fertilisers causes chemical bronchitis and pulmonary disorders. Appropriate respiratory protective equipment must be worn and fiited accurately to avoid risks.

Mylonitic mafic granulite in fault megabreccia at Clarke Head, Nova Scotia: a sample of Avalonian lower crust?
Article Abstract:
Investigations of the fault megabreccia in the Minas fault system at Clarke Head, Nova Scotia, indicate the presence of the granulite facies rock that characterizes North America's Avalon Superterrane lower crust. This chaotic, shattered granulite is a grey, banded mylonitic gneiss. Anhydrous shearing occurring in the fault zone causes ultramylonitic to mylonitic structures. The Minas fault system is deeply rooted into the crust, as suggested by the occurrence of ductile rock of good quality.
