Trends in Sexual Risk Behaviors Among High School Students-United States, 1991-1997
Article Abstract:
Some high school students are waiting longer to have sex and are using condoms more often when they do. This conclusion comes from an analysis of data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey for 1991 through 1997. This survey showed that the percentage of high school students who had sexual experience dropped 11% overall. Most of the drop occurred in male students. The number of students who had multiple sex partners also decreased and condom use increased 23%. More students received AIDS education in school in 1997 compared with 1991.

Contraceptive practices before and after an intervention promoting condom use to prevent HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases among women - selected US sites, 1993-1995
Article Abstract:
Condom promotion programs not only increase condom use but also encourage women to continue using hormonal contraceptive methods. This was the conclusion of a study of 1,173 women who were sexually active and received counseling on the use of condoms at a clinic. At the 3-month follow-up, 75% of the women who were using hormonal contraceptive at the first visit were still using it. Sixty-eight percent who used condoms at the first visit still used them. Consistent condom use overall rose from 13% to 36%.
