Controlling angiogenesis in heart valves

Article Abstract:

A study show that chondromodulin-1, an antiangiogenic factor isolated from cartilage, is capable to help keep the valves clear of blood vessels in mice which provides evidence that lack of chondromodulin-1 might lead to pathology associated with valve thickening. It was found that deficiency of chondromodulin-1 had no obvious effect in younger mice (8 weeks), but resulted in increased angiogenesis in the cardiac valves of aged mice (90 weeks) and elderly humans, associated with valve thickening, calcification and turbulent blood flow.

VGEF inhibitors make blood

Article Abstract:

The promising therapeutic success of the first approved VGEF inhibitors in cancer and eye disease is facing several concerns regarding its safety, effectiveness, and development of resistance. Studies report that neutralization of VGEF in mouse and primate models results in a profound increase in the secretion of erythropoietin (Epo) from the liver, leading to enhanced generation of red blood cells (erythropoiesis) and elevated circulating red blood cell counts.

Modification of kidney barrier function by the urokinase receptor

Article Abstract:

The modification of the kidney barrier by the application of the urokinase receptor (uPAR) signaling in podocytes is found to lead to foot process effacement as well as urinary protein loss.
