Costly errors

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers should ensure a high-quality of workmanship during the production process to prevent having to recall unsafe products at a later date. Several products manufactured in the UK were recalled during the first three months of 1997 for a variety of reasons, such as failure to meet flammability standards, nuts added to foods which should have been nut-free and glass found in packets of crisps. Some products become unsafe due to a breakdown in the manufacturing process such as metal scraps found in packets of crackers whilst other problems arise from poor design making them unsafe.

Claim form. (civil cases for personal injury)

Article Abstract:

The increased volume of personal injury claims will put a strain on corporate finances, although changes in legal aid rules have made it more difficult for most victims to bring cases. This has led to personal injury victims litigating on a do-it-yourself basis and lawyers have successfully pressed for the implementation of conditional fee agreements.

Flight and plight

Article Abstract:

The greatest risk for air travellers in 2001 is not from a crash, but from a cabin-related incident. Cases of deep vein thrombosis were rare ten years ago, but privatisation has led to less space and poor air quality in airplanes.
