Countdown to completion: fears that enrolled nurses would not find enough courses to convert to registered nurse status have turned out to be exaggerated. The task of converting over 50,000 ENs may soon be completed
Article Abstract:
There has been a high success rate achieved by enrolled nurses (ENs) undertaking courses for registered nurse status, since the conversion programme was introduced nearly 10 years ago. There had initially been concern that ENs would be unable to find places on the available courses, but by 1991 there were more conversion courses available. Although there was a slow start to conversion, the goal of 50,000 converted ENs will probably be achieved over the next five years.

Why do nurses not make use of a solid research base?
Article Abstract:
Most nurses in the UK have a generally positive attitude towards using nursing research, and see research as a basis for clinical care. However, they still find it hard to combine research-based theory and practice. It is vital that senior nurses give junior nurses the necessary time and assistance for improving, making them more confident about their abilities. This will in turn make them more willing to use research to investigate new areas of nursing.
