Designing and carrying out a clinical audit

Article Abstract:

Clinical audit is the process by which health care workers examine their practices to ensure that they are consistently of the highest standard. Nurses involved in clinical audit measure their own practices and outcomes against agreed standards of good practice. They then address any failings by drawing up an action plan for change. A clinical audit should address a limited area of practice and it should address topics which are perceived as relevant by interested parties.

Preparing a proposal for research

Article Abstract:

A nurse who is to undertake research should first compile a research proposal. This may be necessary for funding or for approval by an academic body, but it is also very helpful in clarifying research ideas and it will form part of the final report. The research proposal will include a statement of the resources required, including funding for personnel, equipment and travel.
