Aid-related risks
Article Abstract:
People in Aid has published a code of good practice which attempts to ensure the safety of care workers who operate in danger zones around the world. The need for this code of practice stems from the increasing incidences of murder of aid workers in areas such as Rwanda and Chechnya. The problems are arising because aid agencies respond quickly to appeals for aid and workers often go to areas which are still unsettled or which have no stable rule of law. The code of practice also advises better training, support and consultation for aid workers.

Casualty watch
Article Abstract:
One in six people who attend accident and emergency departments at hospitals in the UK have to wait for more than four hours for treatment, according to a survey of around 200 accident and emergency departments and 1,917 patients undertaken by the Association of Community Health Councils for England and Wales. Some 44% of patients had to wait for more than two hours, going against the provisions of the Patient's Charter. In some cases, patients have to wait more than 24 hours for a bed.
