Detection of minority populations of HIV-1-expressing the K103N resistance mutation in patients failing nevirapine

Article Abstract:

Studies have suggested that in HIV-1 infected patients, the populations of drug-resistant viruses can be heterogeneous and that minority variants expressing distinct genotypes. The findings support the idea that minority viral populations with distinct resistance genotypes, although undetectable by standard genotyping can contribute to the failure of salvage regimens.

Estimating and comparing reduction in HIV-1 RNA in clinical trials using methods for interval censored data

Article Abstract:

The magnitude of reduction in HIV-1 RNA levels provide an important complement to the end point based on the percentage of patients achieving HIV-1 RNA levels below a threshold value. Analyses and interpretation of this end point, however, is difficult due to the lower limit of quantification.

Contribution of cellular HIV-1 DNA quantification to the efficacy analysis of antiretroviral therapy: A randomized comparison of 2 regimens, including 3 drugs from 2 or 3 classes (TRIANON, ANRS 081)

Article Abstract:

The predictive value of cellular HIV-1 DNA on the virologic response to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is evaluated. It is concluded that cellular HIV-1 DNA levels decreased more in antiretroviral-naive patients than in pretreated ones after HAART initiation.
