Diagnosis and management of lymphoedema

Article Abstract:

The accumulation of relatively protein-rich fluid in the interstitial spaces results from a dysfunction of the normal flow of lymph fluid is termed as lymphodema and are of two types namely primary and secondary lymphoedema. It is essential that an accurate diagnosis is made as to the cause of the lymphoedema and treatment should be aimed at reducing the oedema and restoring the equilibrium in the interstitium by encouraging lymph fluid to flow through collateral vessels, so as to minimise complications.
