Diana's legacy for life

Article Abstract:

Ten pilot schemes are being set up in the UK to provide children's community nursing teams under a three-year, six million pounds sterling project as recommended by the Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Committee. The teams will aim to offer both practical and emotional support and nursing care to children with life-limiting conditions. The service will give choice and autonomy to the children and their families and will be co-ordinated in conjunction with other professional service providers. Some nurses are concerned about some aspects of the scheme, such as how the project will be funded after the three-year pilot period.

Tiresome healing

Article Abstract:

Post-operative care should include information on prolonged fatigue. Patients expect a quick recovery following routine operations as little advice is available. Unjustified worries and guilt feelings from a slow recovery could lead to depression without adequate support. Practice nurses could take responsibility for guiding patients safely back to normal living.
