Article Abstract:

Companies are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to provide workers with machine safeguards. Different machines need different safeguards due to the varying risks they pose. Safeguards come in two types, namely, barrier safeguards which prevent access to hazards and devices which can control operator access or stop machinery. Steps for selecting safeguards and ways some companies minimize hazards are discussed.
