Retaining a low proportion of body fat in the abdominal section is a function of diet and aerobic exercise. Both interact to reduce the size and deposition of fat tissues, that usually accumulate the abdomen.

A research project compared the cost of a week of groceries for a family on a 10% fat diet with one on a 37% fat diet. The low-fat diet cost $40 less each week and provided better nutrition.
