Diet and vitamin D status among pregnant Pakistani women in Oslo

Article Abstract:

A comparative study of the diet and nutritional status of 38 pregnant Pakistani immigrant women and equal numbers of Norwegian pregnant women in Oslo, Norway, revealed lack of exposure to the sun and deficient vitamin D intake as the main causes of vitamin D deficiency in the Pakistani women. While the serum levels of 25-hydroxy-vitamin D3 was lower than prescribed safe levels, the serum parathyroid hormone quantity was considerably higher than desired in the immigrant women.
