Discriminating on grounds of need not disabilities

Article Abstract:

Lothian Primary Care National Health Service Trust and the Western General and Royal Victoria hospitals in Edinburgh, Scotland, have developed a structure for assessing and supporting people with learning disabilities in acute hospital environments. This project has involved establishing a learning disabilities dependency assessment scale to help in identifying whether additional nurses are required to support the care of people with learning disabilities. Six community learning disabilities nurses now act as link nurses.
