Drama out of a crisis

Article Abstract:

Mental health charity Mind objects to a Channel 4 television series set in a psychiatric hospital. The charity believes that the programme title alone will have a negative effect on attitudes to the mentally ill. Channel 4 maintains that the title 'Psychos' refers to the staff not the patients. Actor Iain Fraser, who plays a nurse in the series, maintains that the series accurately represents life in a psychiatric hospital as he experienced it when working within that environment, and that comedy in the programme relates to staff responses rather than patient actions.

Forewarned is forearmed

Article Abstract:

Public inquiries are a perilous place for nursing staff who fail to properly prepare evidence. The artificial nature of public inquiries produces great stress for people giving evidence and may result in the wrong impression being given of a situation. Nurses are advised to ensure adequate preparation is taken before entering a public inquiry and to remain calm at all times without allowing defensive behaviour to mar the proceedings.
