EPA's 33/50 Program: companies cooperate to reduce pollution
Article Abstract:
The EPA has succeeded in its goal of safeguarding the environment amidst conflicting feedbacks from business and environmental sectors. This is by means of the revolutionary pollution prevention 33/50 Program which was introduced in 1991 hand-in-hand with the industry. 33/50 is a voluntary emissions reduction program for 17 commonly applied chemicals. It specifically targets a 33% decrease in 1992 and a 50% in 1995 by posting a decrease of not less than 750 million pounds from the 1.5 billion pounds of such chemicals disposed to the environment in 1988.

Rule would ease management of contaminated materials
Article Abstract:
The EPA has designed a new regulation that will facilitate the management, treatment and disposal of naturally occurring materials from cleanup sites. The sites refer to every cleanup site while the rule covers cleanup of wastes that are included in Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, under which the new regulation is targeted. Subtitle C controls the management, treatment and disposal of hazardous substances. However, its existing provisions slow down cleanups, restrict cleanup choices and incur additional expenses.
