Long-term proton pump inhibitor therapy and risk of hip fracture

Article Abstract:

A nested case-control study is undertaken to determine the association between proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy used for management of acid-related diseases and the risk of hip fracture. Results indicate that long-term PPI therapy, especially at high doses, is associated with an increased risk of hip fracture.
