Effect of pregnancy and stage of pregnancy on asthma severity: a systematic review

Article Abstract:

A systematic review is conducted in order to determine, among pregnant women with asthma, whether pregnancy and stage of pregnancy influence maternal asthma severity. The findings reveal that bronchial hyperresponsiveness to methacholine improved between preconception and pregnancy in 69 percent off the women, although it deteriorated in 31 percent of the women.

Randomized trial of inhaled beclomethasone dipropionate versus theophylline for moderate asthma during pregnancy

Article Abstract:

The comparison of the efficacy of inhaled beclomethasone dipropionate to oral theophylline for the prevention of moderate asthma exacerbations requiring medical intervention are described. The use of corticosteroids for moderate asthma during pregnancy is more effective, as it has improved forced expiratory volume expired in 1 second (FEV1), than theophylline.

The use of prostaglandin E2 in pregnant patients with asthma

Article Abstract:

The use of obstetric forms of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in patients with asthma has not been clear, so a study to analyze the use of PGE2 in a population of pregnant patients with asthma is presented. It is reported that the maximum risk for the development of a clinical exacerbation of asthma, if exposed to the obstetric forms of PGE2 is less or equal to 2%.
