Effects of a behavioral intervention to reduce risk of transmission among people living with HIV

Article Abstract:

A multiuse, 2-group, randomized controlled trial was designed to examine the effect of a 15-session, individually delivered, cognitive behavioral intervention on a diverse sample of people living with HIV (PLH) at risk of transmitting to others. The findings suggest that cognitive behavioral intervention programs could effectively reduce the potential of HIV transmission to others among PLH who report significant transmission risk behavior.

Reconciling different infectivity estimates for HIV-1

Article Abstract:

Studies conducted reveal that the probability of transmission of HIV through promiscuous or casual sexual contacts is higher in the third or symptomatic stage of the disease. The study shows that the transmission of HIV was more likely to take place in the first five months after infection.

HIV epidemics driven by late disease stage transmission

Article Abstract:

High-resolution estimates of semen infectivity by HIV disease stage are presented using the robust model. It concluded that the infectivity of the symptomatic stage is far higher, hence more potent, than the values that prior studies have used when modeling HIV transmission dynamics.
