Efficacy of midodrine vs placebo in neurogenic orthostatic hypotension: a randomized, double-blind multicenter study

Article Abstract:

The drug midodrine may be effective in treating orthostatic hypotension. Orthostatic hypotension is a drop in blood pressure that occurs during a change in position. Researchers randomly assigned 162 patients with orthostatic hypotension to take 10 milligrams of midodrine or placebo 3 times a day. By the end of the second week, midodrine improved standing blood pressure and symptoms such as light-headedness. The most common side effects were itching, urinary retention and hypertension when lying down.
