Efficacy of the selective prostaglandin synthase type 2 inhibitor nimesulide in blocking basal prostaglandin production and delaying glucocorticoid-induced premature labor in sheep

Article Abstract:

The drug nimesulide may inhibit premature labor without damaging the fetus. Nimesulide inhibits the enzyme prostaglandin synthase type 2. During labor, the production of prostaglandins increases. Various drugs such as indomethacin can suppress the production of prostaglandins, but they can also adversely affect the fetus. Researchers tested nimesulide in pregnant sheep and found that the drug decreased prostaglandin production and prevented premature delivery.

Delay of preterm birth in sheep by THG113.31, a prostaglandin F(sub 2alpha) receptor antagonist

Article Abstract:

A novel prostaglandin F(sub 2alpha) receptor antagonist, THG113.31, is tested for the suppression of uterine contractility and delay of preterm labor in sheep. THG113.31 specifically suppresses prostaglandin F(sub 2alpha)-induced myometrial contractility and delays delivery.

Inhibition of premature labor in sheep by a combined treatment of nimesulide, a prostaglandin synthase type 2 inhibitor, and atosiban, an oxytocin receptor antagonist

Article Abstract:

The drug atosiban may allow lower doses of nimesulide to be used, delaying premature labor without adversely affecting the fetus. Atosiban inhibits the hormone oxytocin, and nimesulide inhibits prostaglandin production.
