Fat in your diet: how low should you go?
Article Abstract:
Americans are concerned about the amount and kind of fat in their diets. It is generally recommended that no more than 30% of daily calories should consist of fat. Furthermore, no more than 8-10% of those calories should have saturated fat. There have been studies that indicate the benefits of plant-based, low-fat diets with no more than 15% of daily calories from fat. Reduction in fat intake is not a guarantee of weight management. What is critical is that monunsaturated and polyunsaturated fats dominate a diet and that other weight-gaining calories are not substituted for fat-based calories.
