Fetal and maternal diurnal rhythms during the third trimester of normal pregnancy: outcomes of computerized analysis of continuous twenty-four-hour fetal heart rate recordings
Article Abstract:
Fetal heart rates may vary with the time of day and may relate to maternal heart rhythm. Researchers considered normal variations in fetal heart rhythm by performing continuous fetal heart rate monitoring in 26 healthy pregnant women. Seventy-three percent of fetuses had a diurnal heart rate rhythm in which the heart rate fell during the night, closely matching changes in maternal heart rate. Thirty-one percent of fetuses had a diurnal rhythm for fetal activity. Maternal blood hormone levels, which vary with time of day, may influence the heart rate of the fetus.

High prevalence of hemostatic abnormalities in women with a history of severe preeclampsia
Article Abstract:
Hemostatic abnormalities may be a principle cause of preeclampsia. These abnormalities predispose women to abnormal blood clotting and include resistance to activated protein C, elevated blood levels of homocysteine, the factor V Leiden gene mutation and anticardiolipin antibodies. In a study of 345 women with a history of preeclampsia during pregnancy and 67 healthy women, the women with a history of preeclampsia were more likely to have one or more of these hemostatic abnormalities.

Prediction of maternal complications and adverse infant outcome at admission for temporizing management of early-onset severe hypertensive disorders of pregnancy
Article Abstract:
The association between clinical parameters at admission and the subsequent development of major maternal complications or adverse infant outcome in women with hypertensive complications of pregnancy remote from term is explored. The results have shown that the prediction at admission of the clinical course of the disease and the development of additional maternal complications is not feasible.
