Fighting talk
Article Abstract:
There are some 350,000 incidents of violence in the workplace each year in the UK, with the majority of the assaults perpetrated on staff who are attacked by members of the public. Companies could act to help ease situations where the public are likely to become angry such as updating travel staff on delays. People who work in areas known to be at risk should be given a safer environment to work in and an effort should be made to try to change the general view of those trying to help. There were 1633 armed assaults on banks in 1991 therefore protection of staff must be a priority.

Spotlight on fire: Fire drill
Article Abstract:
Full training must be given to all company personnel in regard to fire safety and prevention. On discovering a fire the alarm must be raised and the fire extinguished but if this is not possible the fire service should be informed and the building evacuated. In the United Kingdom fires in the workplace cost 500 million pounds sterling, kills 50 people and injures around 2,000 workers annually. Personnel should be trained to use a variety of fire extinguishing equipment. The identification of possible fire hazards and regular fire drills will help to prevent workplace fires.
