Article Abstract:

UK police officers are covered under the Police (Health and Safety) Act 1997, which became law during 1998. Health and safety aspects of police work are monitored and controlled by a working government-backed group which was set up in 1994. The working group is determined to implement legislation to improve health and safety for officers who work on behalf of the service as employees and are therefore covered under normal employment health and safety laws.

Risk assessment: Getting personal

Article Abstract:

A company with a workforce of 600, of which one third are involved with production, offers its staff two briefing days annually. The briefings aim to update staff on corporate issues, including aspects of health and safety. Recently the company introduced a personal risk assessment exercise in order to make the health and safety presentation more proactive and improve staff motivation.
