Food advertising: Separating fact from fiction
Article Abstract:
Products labeled light or low fat may contain less fat than similar products that do not have reduced fat levels, but that does not necessarily make them low in fat or low in calories, and an item advertised as having no additives or preservatives may be high in sugar or fat, as well as low in overall nutritional value. The best way is to disregard the claims made on the front of packages and instead pay attention to Nutrition Facts labels and ingredient lists that carry the real information.
