Formula baby milk: what are the facts?
Article Abstract:
Intense debate surrounds the issues of bottle-feeding and the information which health professionals provide to women on the subject. Some organisations strongly support breast-feeding as the natural, healthy choice. WHO and UNICEF launched the Baby-Friendly Initiative to promote this view. Others have condemned supporters of this view for not providing information to mothers on bottle-feeding. Baby-milk manufacturers have set up a group to campaign for more information for women. Information on baby-milk scares of 1996 and 1997 is included, together with baby feeding statistics.

Infusion confusion
Article Abstract:
The incorrect administration of medication via infusion pumps can lead to serious injury or death, with 17 deaths occuring through errors involving syringe pumps during 1989-1995. Two fact-based fictional accounts are presented describing how such incidents are likely to occur. In one case the syringe was wrongly believed to have been calibrated in millimetres per day instead of millimetres per hour, and in another medication was syphoned from the syringe because the plunger was inadequately secured.
