Gallstones: Common, but not to be ignored

Article Abstract:

Gallstones are formed when the bile in the gallbladder becomes chemically unbalanced and solid particles are formed which grow into stones which are commonly of two types cholesterol stones and pigment stones and removal of gallbladder is the common treatment. There are many factors that contribute to gallstones but maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding crash diets, which leads to rapid weight loss, and having a diet that is low in fat and high in fiber and complex carbohydrates can lower the risk.

Dietary fiber: bulking up you diet can be a healthful decision

Article Abstract:

A chart showing the fiber content of four categories of common foods are given. The categories shown are breads and cereals, fruits and nuts, vegetables, and cooking ingredients and supplements. The suggested goal for the amount of dietary fiber needed daily is 25 to 30 grams from a variety of sources. It is also important to drink lots of water to avoid constipation.

Fiber: why you may need more, and good ways to get it

Article Abstract:

A diet high in fiber can reduce the risk of gastrointestinal disorders, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, obesity, hypertension and constipation. Foods that provide fiber include bran cereals, vegetables, fruits and legumes. The recommended daily intake of fiber is 20 to 35 grams.
