Gender differences in mental health

Article Abstract:

The overall incidence of mental disorders occurs equally in men and women in the general population. There is considerable difference between males and females in the pattern of the disorders and psychological symptoms. Women receive more primary care services for mental disorders than men. Psychiatrists and psychologists see more men. These findings represent the extent of treatment, not the need.
