Gene-toxicant link to Parkinson's disease

Article Abstract:

Risk of dementia that sometimes accompanies Parkinson's disease may be greater for some people who have both a given genetic trait and exposure to pesticides. In a study of 94 subjects with the disease, 43 of whom had dementia, it was shown that patients who had been exposed to pesticides and who had the CYP 2D6 29B+ allele were three times as likely to develop dementia than others. Some patients in the no-dementia group may develop dementia in time. Self-reports from dementia patients are unreliable. More research is needed.

Environmental chemicals and changes in sex ratio: analysis over 250 years in Finland

Article Abstract:

The birth rates of males and females in Finland between 1751 and 1997 are examined, focusing on whether environmental chemicals have had an impact on the declining ratio of males to females. Conclusions indicate an association cannot be made between use of pesticides and hormonal drugs and decline in male to female ratio.
