General internal medicine
Article Abstract:
Among the greatest problems facing general internal medicine is the growing disparity between primary care medicine and the increasingly high-tech medicine being delivered at the major medical centers. About 20 years ago, a series of training programs were developed to prepare a generation of general internists for primary care medicine. Enrollment in these programs has declined and today fewer internists enter primary care medicine than when these programs began. Many internists work in large medical centers, where they see the mission of community care being eroded by the fascination with high technology. These internists see how many patients are left without adequate medical insurance or without medical insurance at all. The internists also see the problems of the homeless and the plight of victims of AIDS. There have been many improvements in medical care in recent years, but despite more advanced treatment methods, and increasing sophistication and knowledge within the medical community, much work remains to be done as long as there are people who are failing to receive adequate, or even minimal, medical treatment. Biological Determinants of Cancer Progression in Men With Prostate Cancer
Article Abstract:
The size of the tumor and the percentage of the tumor that has a Gleason score of 4/5 appears to determine the prognosis of prostate cancer. Researchers analyed prostate gland specimens from 379 men who had their prostate removed to treat prostate cancer. The bigger the tumor and the higher the percentage of cells with Gleason score of 4/5, the more likely the disease progressed and the more likely prostate removal failed to control disease progression.
