Graft tolerance: a duel of two signals

Article Abstract:

A study in nonhuman primates has shown that mimicking the immune system's own mechanism for maintaining self-tolerance can make possible long-term survival of transplanted kidneys. Graft tolerance has been found to involve two signals and their interactions. The T killer cell and the B cell die when the death signal alone is received, but both differentiate to deliver immune responses if both signals arrive.

Generation of primary antigen-specific human T- and B-cell responses in immunocompetent SCID-hu mice

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the use of severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice to more accurately replicate the physiological conditions in the human immune system. Topics addressed include human grafts to SCID mice, activation of human leukocytes in mice, and the study of antigen-specific immune responses.
