Gym will fix it
Article Abstract:
A successful cardiac rehabilitation service has been developed by King's Healthcare NHS Trust in south London, England, since 1993. A cardiac support group meets regularly at a local community centre, while Active Solutions, an ongoing exercise class, offers patients who have had heart attacks or major heart surgery a wide range of activities. There is also the Heartbeat Club, which offers health education, exercise and relaxation for patients with angina and chronic heart conditions. There are plans to set up a pre-operative support group for patients facing cardiac surgery.

Cardiovascular assessment
Article Abstract:
Nurses need to know about cardiovascular physiology so that they can make a detailed nursing assessment in order to care for their patients effectively. The assessment will include appearance, medical history, blood pressure and measuring the heart rate. Nurses also need to take a cardiovascular history to find out if the patient smokes, if there is heart disease in the family and if the patient has been having palpitations. The assessment process, factors relating to cardiovascular history and guidelines for taking blood pressure are discussed in detail.

Home is where the heart is: recovering at home is proving to be a successful option for cardiac surgery patients
Article Abstract:
A project at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London aims to bridge the gap for cardiac surgical patients between hospital and home by returning them home as soon as is possible, but with suitable monitoring and support. A home care nurse has to ensure that the home environment is conducive to early discharge. The nurse is in direct contact with the hospital through a fax machine, laptop computer, mobile telephone and a portable ECG. Patients and carers have reacted positively to the project.
