HIV/AIDS
Article Abstract:
The number of new cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) reached 1584 in 1995, with 26.8% of sufferers dying. Twenty two thousand people are known to have the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The presence of the HIV antibodies can be discovered 6 to 7 weeks post infection by a blood test. The virus can be passed by a variety of body fluids but infection rate will depend on the amount, condition and how the virus is being passed. Nurses should always use the appropriate type of protection when dealing with all patients.

Trials of strength
Article Abstract:
The quality of care and treatment given to patients suffering from HIV and AIDS is worse if the patient does not live in London. There are a number of new treatments which are thought to be safer and more effective than conventional medicines and should be available for all patients regardless of their geographical location, sex, age and race. Clinical trials do not represent women, children and ethnic minorities to the same extent as gay males, and this influences the standard of their care.
