High-accuracy CMMs
Article Abstract:
High-accuracy coordinate measuring instruments (CMMs) are often the subject of erroneous perceptions, particularly with respect to their 'accuracy.' The accuracy of CMMs is difficult to determine because of the inconsistent and varied standards applied by manufacturers, users and suppliers. Nevertheless, great care should be taken to ensure that CMMs function accurately. This requires devoting attention to numerous threats, such as the measuring process, the environment, workpiece stability, the operator and defects in the CMM itself.
