Healthy people 2000: national health promotion, disease prevention objectives for the year 2000
Article Abstract:
Healthy People 2000 is a newly released report from the United States Department of Health and Human Services which outlines health objectives for the United States during the 1990s. The report set forth three major goals: increasing life span; decreasing differences in life span between different populations; and providing access to health services to all. To meet these three strategic goals, a group of 298 specific objectives have been developed. The objectives were prepared as a collaborative effort of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, 300 national organizations and the United States Public Health Service. A list of 22 priority areas is included, each classified by one of the three strategic goals, together with the organization designated as the lead agency. Some states, including Oregon and Wisconsin, have also designated their own year 2000 health objectives. (Consumer Summary produced by Reliance Medical Information, Inc.)
