Higher professional liability rates predicted

Article Abstract:

Insurance analysts predict that physicians' liability coverage premiums will rise in 1993 due to an increase in the number of lawsuits in 1992 and the severity of malpractice claims. Most insurance companies in the Physicians Insurers Assn of America are not planning on raising physician premiums, or will reduce rates by up to 5% in 1992. However, St Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co, the largest medical liability insurer in the US, has already increased its Jul 1992 premium rates by an average of 2.5%.
