Single ring- or disk-enhancing computed tomographic lesion in Indian children and adolescents after first seizure

Article Abstract:

Computed tomographic (CT) imaging may be useful in diagnosing the cause of first seizures in children. Researchers in India studied 121 children aged 6-15 years within one week of their first seizures. CT imaging revealed brain abnormalities in 77.7% of patients, half of whom had normal electroencephalographic (EEG) tests of brain electrical activity. In India, two common causes of these brain abnormalities are tuberculous tumors and tapeworm larvae. These defects often resolve spontaneously.

Children at risk: we shall overcome

Article Abstract:

The amount and quality of medical care for poor children continues to decline, and one possible strategy which may change the situation is family-centered care. In this approach, the family has significant input in decisions to be made, and is involved in planning, delivery, and evaluation of health care services. Many physicians may find this idea an uncomfortable one, and not fitting with tradition and education, but those who have used it finds it can improve the quality of care.
