Island of strength (Island Hospice, Zimbabwe)
Article Abstract:
Island Hospice is a community service in Harare, Zimbabwe, where staff provide support for people concerned about bereavement and dying, or for those with life-threatening illnesses. The hospice's home care nurses visit patients in their homes in and around Harare to give them advice, treatment and practical help. The hospice, which relies heavily on fund-raising, has no in-patient beds but expects to open a day center soon.

A nurse tells of her two experiences of sexual harassment by colleagues at psychiatric hospitals in the US. She contrasts the passive way in which she dealt with the first incident as a 24-year-old with her decision to confront the perpetrator when she suffered sexual harassment again nine years later.
