Immunisation uptake in an inner-city area

Article Abstract:

Research into child immunisation uptake in the Parkside District Health Authority in London shows that uptake in urban areas is not as low as statistics suggest. The inner-city Parkside area had an annual recorded uptake rate of 60-70% per year, while research showed that the true rate should have been 92%. Some 462 of 1,485 children were originally listed as defaulters without recorded final immunisations, while the figure should have been 64. Full immunisation had been given to 195 defaulters, with parents of a further 28 children intending to immunise. Only 15 families had refused immunisation altogether.

HIV antibody seroprevalence and associated risk factors in sex workers, drug users, and prisoners in Sindh, Pakistan

Article Abstract:

Anti-AIDS intervention programs undertaken in Sindh, Pakistan could make a major difference, while the rate of infection is still low. Tests for HIV-1 antibodies in 1993 and 1994 showed a low incidence. None of the 81 professional sex workers who were tested were positive. None of the 316 male drugs users tested were positive for the antibody. Of 3,441 male prisoners tested, only one was found to be HIV-1 positive, and of the 84 female prisoners tested, only one was positive.
