Importance of sex partner HIV status in HIV risk assessment among men who have sex with men

Article Abstract:

Clinical HIV risk assessments done in an urban sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinic identified men who have sex with men (MSM) with the greatest risk for HIV acquisition and transmission. Anal sex partner HIV status and condom use identifies MSM at greatest risk for HIV acquisition and transmission and these risk criteria might be effectively used for more intensive prevention interventions.

Update on syphilis: resurgence of an old problem

Article Abstract:

The symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of syphilis are reviewed. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease that is becoming more and more common in gay men. This began in 1997, and doctors speculate that the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) made many gay men think they could engage in risky sexual behavior again.

AIDS vaccines that allow HIV-1 to infect and escape immunologic control: A mathematic analysis of mass vaccination

Article Abstract:

A mathematic model that correlates the level of viremia to both infectiousness and disease progression is designed to infect and escape immunologic control. In the absence of treatment or vaccination, a sexually active population can ultimately be reduced to 26% of its initial size, because of AIDS-related mortality.
