Condom practices of urban teens usnig Norplant contraceptive implants, oral contraceptives, and condoms for contraception

Article Abstract:

Many teenagers who use Norplant contraceptive implants do not use condoms on a regular basis. This was the conclusion of a study of 399 urban teenagers, 200 of whom had Norplant implants, 100 of whom used oral contraceptives and 99 who used condoms alone for birth control. Although the Norplant users were less likely to use condoms, they were no more likely to have a sexually transmitted disease compared to the other teens.

Benefits and risks of oral contraceptives

Article Abstract:

The current third-generation, low-dose oral contraceptives are generally safe but they can increase the risk of abnormal blood clotting. Smokers are most at risk, especially those over the age of 30. Smoking 25 or more cigarettes per day confers the highest risk.
