Intrapartum oligohydramnios does not predict adverse peripartum outcome among high-risk parturients
Article Abstract:
Evaluating the amount of amniotic fluid in high-risk women in early labor does not appear to be a useful means of determining who is at risk for problems in labor. Lack of amniotic fluid has been associated with increased incidence of fetal distress and cesarean section. However, researchers did not find this association in 490 women with obstetric complications who underwent ultrasound measurements of amniotic fluid in early labor. Women with abnormally small amounts of amniotic fluid were not more likely to have cesarean sections for fetal distress or to have infants born in poor condition.
